Jennifer Carlo, LMHC, is a licensed mental health counselor and special education teacher with experience in working with children, adolescents and their families. Ms. Carlo is bilingual and biliteral in English and Spanish and serves the Miami Shores and Aventura areas. Her specialty encompasses assessment and treatment of behavioral disorders, emotional disorders as well as educational difficulties.
Jennifer Carlo obtained her Bachelor’s degree in special education from Florida International University in 1999. She taught special education for seven years including elementary, middle and high school students. In 2005, Ms. Carlo obtained her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Miami. She currently practices as a therapist in a Statewide Inpatient Psychiatric Program (SIPP) at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Ms. Carlo also serves as a liason between the school system and the SIPP program in order to ensure that recommendations suggested by evaluators are correctly implemented in the educational setting.
Ms. Carlo provides individual, group and family counseling for children and adolescents with their families. Psychoeducation, crisis intervention, mood disorders, personality disorders, chronic medical conditions and trauma are among her areas of expertise. Other areas include: behavior modification for oppositional, conduct disordered children/adolescents as well as relapse prevention for substance abuse.
Ms. Carlo has experience in working at a psychiatric inpatient unit as well as in an outpatient clinic. Some of the approaches utilized include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and family systems. She is a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors.
