Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Deetza Franklin, LMHC is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified School Counselor with 12+ years of experience working with children and their families both in schools as well as privately.
Mrs. Franklin earned a Masters Degree in School Counseling from Seton Hall University, and became a certified school counselor. She then studied mental health counseling at Nova Southeastern University and earned her license in mental health counseling.
Mrs. Franklin has extensive experience working in private schools and helping children with social, emotional and behavioral concerns. She has run many therapeutic groups addressing topics including social skills, emotion regulation, children of divorce, healthy body image, and self-esteem.
For a number of years, Mrs. Franklin has provided "social emotional learning" programs in classrooms, to educate children on how to recognize and handle strong feelings, learn coping skills, problem solving skills and social skills to navigate relationships and friendships. She has worked closely with parents and teachers on how to reinforce these concepts with their children/students.
In her private practice, Mrs. Franklin works with children and adolescents to address social, emotional and behavioral challenges. Her practice, SkillsFocusedTherapy.com, uses a directive play therapy approach, to help children gain the life skills they need to become successful adults. Mrs. Franklin’s areas of specialty include emotion regulation skills, social skills, parenting issues, problem solving and coping skills, empowering victims of bullying, and selective mutism. She offers an in-school therapy option.
Mrs. Franklin’s empathic nature makes her easily approachable and she connects well with children of all ages. She is passionate about helping children and their families tap into their strengths, overcome challenges, and become their best selves.
